FWP Releases Juvenile Great Horned Owl: Recently, the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) proudly announced the release of a juvenile Great Horned Owl. The owl became an orphan in early April. This young owl, which faced a precarious start in life, was fortunate to find refuge at MT WILD’s Wildlife Center. Over the past four months, it received dedicated care and attention from the center’s experienced staff and volunteers.
During its stay, the juvenile owl was paired with their resident Great Horned Owl. It was a crucial step in its rehabilitation process. This companionship allowed the young owl to observe and learn essential owl behaviors. Behaviors which are critical for its survival in the wild. The resident owl played an instrumental role in teaching the juvenile how to fly effectively and hunt proficiently. These skills are indispensable for an owl’s independence.
The comprehensive training and nurturing environment provided by MT WILD’s Wildlife Center aimed to equip the owl with the necessary tools to thrive once released into its natural habitat. FWP is optimistic that the efforts invested in the owl’s rehabilitation will contribute to its ability to live a long and successful life in the wild. There it can continue to play its role in the ecosystem.
The release of this juvenile Great Horned Owl is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in wildlife conservation and rehabilitation. It serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and nurturing our wildlife. We are happy it has a chance at a promising future.
